Approximately Ks. 9 billion will be spent on construction of 9 riverbank protection projects along the Ayeyawady River and Chindwin River in Sagaing Region, said an official from the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems under the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The 20 projects will be allowed construction companies to implement through a tender system while 25 projects will be built by our department by spending about 9 billion from the regional government’s fund,” said U Kyaw Soe, Deputy Director from the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems.
“We will spend much amount of budget on construction of the riverbank protection projects depending on the budget allocation. The Chindwin River’s waterway is very fast. The implementation of the project is expected to commence this month,” he added.—Ko Min (Indaw)
