Arrangements are being made to transform Pyin Oo Lwin into a smoke free city, according to the Public Health Department of Pyin Oo Lwin District.
The project will be implemented at schools, government offices, religious buildings, public places, hotels, motels, stadiums and playgrounds.
“We need to take time to change Pyin Oo Lwin into a smoke free city, and toward this end, we will conduct a sticker campaign against smoking via discussions”, said Dr. Than Win, Dean of the Public Health Department.
To be a smoke free city, departmental offices will be focused as a first step, stores where cigarettes are available will be targeted as a second step, to be followed by schools as a third step. In addition, health awareness against smoke, sticker campaign and creating a smoke free area will also be undertaken.
In addition, there will be surprise checks at the smoke free areas, according to the department.
