ILLEGAL fiber optic cables connected at posts of power lines owned by the Yangon Electric Supply Corporation were removed on 17 June, according to the officials.
It has been announced to the public that officials will remove the illegal Wi-Fi cables on the power lines by 30 November 2021.
However, due to non-compliance, illegal connection of fiber optic cables and Wi-Fi cables were disconnected and cleared.
The removal of Wi-Fi cables and illegal fiber-optic cables on the posts of YESC along 24th Street and Shwedagon Pagoda Road, Latha Township, Yangon Region were carried out on 17 June, 2022 by the staff of Latha Township Electrical Manager’s Office, and staff from officially licensed telecommunications companies. “Internet companies rely on lamp-posts to install Wi-Fi cables. But, the electrical and telephone lines are securely connected to the city features. Illegal Wi-Fi lines are being installed at the posts of power lines of the corporation, which makes the city ugly,” an electrician told GNLM.
In addition, officials conducted public electricity safety in Pazundaung Township including fixing the power loss, clearing complex cables for voltage improvement, and replacing old analog meters with digital smart meters, and implemented AMI system.
“Some internet companies install a new cable when a home has a bad internet connection. They no longer look for defects in old cables. The number of houses on the street with the Wi-Fi cable is not balanced because every new one is being connected,” Ko Zaw Win, a resident of North Okkalapa Township told GNLM.
“If someone rents a house on the street and the Wi-Fi cable is connected, the company will come up. If the tenant moves out after six months, the company will come and dismantle just a machine, not the cable. —TWA/GNLM
