MYANMAR is preparing to host the Regional Agricultural on Food Security in December.

 

During the second BIM­STEC Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture (BAMM) of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Tech­nical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) held in India via vid­eoconferencing, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo said Myanmar will host the Regional Agricultural on Food Security in December aiming to practically implement the decisions of State Leaders made at 4th BIMSTEC Summit regarding sustainable profits of agricultural produce and promotion of production rate.

 

The Union minister also served as Joint Chairperson of the 2nd BAMM and presented the implementation of decisions of the GAP Meeting organized by Myanmar, a common project of BIMSTEC encouraging private sector participation, especially in value chain management for agricultural products, the con­tract-farming system of Myan­mar and efforts to adopt plant biotechnology, plant genetic technology and modern digital agricultural technology to devel­op the agricultural sector.

 

Moreover, the Ministers approved the report of the 2nd SOM-A, Action Plan for Strength­ening BIMSTEC Agricultural Cooperation (2023-2027), MoU between the BIMSTEC Sec­retariat and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Joint Statement of the 2nd BAMM and set the time and date for the 3rd BAMM.

 

Director-General U Kyaw Swe Linn of the Planning De­partment co-chaired the Second Senior Official’s Meeting on Ag­riculture (2nd SOM-A). The meet­ing reviewed the progress in the implementation of the 8th BIMS­TEC Agricultural Cooperation Meeting report, the 9th Meeting of the BIMSTEC Expert Group on Agricultural Cooperation re­port, seven Common Projects, Action Plan for Strengthening BIMSTEC Agricultural Cooper­ation (2023-2027), MoU between the BIMSTEC Secretariat and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and fisheries and livestock sectors being supervised by BIMSTEC’s Agricultural Ministers and Sen­ior Officials.—MNA
