A plenary meeting of ASEAN Economic Community Council Ministers and ASEAN Energy Ministers, Transport Ministers and Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry was hosted by Cambodia, the alternate chair­man, on the afternoon of 9 No­vember.

 

Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo of the Ministry of Agricul­ture, Livestock and Irrigation, Deputy Minister Dr Aung Gyi and the Myanmar delegation participated in the meeting vir­tually, along with the ASEAN Economic Community Council Ministers, the ASEAN Minis­ters on Energy, the ASEAN Transport Ministers and the ASEAN Ministers of Agricul­ture and Forestry from 10 ASE­AN member countries.

 

The initial activities and main activities to be carried out sector-wise in the strate­gy for reducing Carbon emis­sions in the ASEAN region, the inputs supported by the government including the use of natural fertilizers and soil improvement methods for the rehabilitation of small-scale farmers affected by COVID-19, the status of maintaining ag­ricultural land for agricultur­al activities, the situations of enhancing 275,000 hectares of agricultural land with less than 10-per-cent canopy and the conditions under which Myanmar will be able to reduce 10.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from 2021 through 2030 were discussed at the meeting.

 

It is reported that the an­nouncement of the meeting was approved afterwards. — MNA
