At the invitation of the Mayor of Andong, the Republic of Ko­rea, the Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Bo Htay left Yangon for the Republic of Korea yesterday morning to attend the 18th World Conference of Historical Cities, which will be held from 14 to 16 November at the Andong Inter­national Convention Center in Andong, the Republic of Korea.

 

Vice Mayor U Nyi Nyi, Secre­tary U Nyunt Pe and committee members saw off the Myanmar delegation at the Yangon Inter­national Airport.

 

The World Historic Cities Conference is jointly organized by The League Of Historical Cit­ies-LHC with Andong City.

 

The LHC is an organization established since 1987 to cre­ate a picture of peace for future generations and to preserve and promote human heritage and his­torical cities.

 

Yangon is not only rich in an­cient heritage, but also in terms of history and culture. As a member city of LHC, Yangon is invited to study and share government policies and preservation of My­anmar’s heritage and historical resources due to its unique co­lonial architecture and many of Southeast Asia’s urban heritage buildings.

 

The Myanmar delegation led by the mayor of Yangon was accompanied by U Nyan Lin Soe, head of the committee office of the YCDC, and U Lin Khaing, di­rector of the engineering depart­ment (roads and bridges).—MNA
