According to statis­tics from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, more than 600,000 local and foreign tourists vis­ited Tanintharyi Region from January to October this year.

 

Myeik District, Dawei District and Kawthoung District had 593,763 local visitors and 3,776 foreign tourists between January and September this year. With the visit of 22,178 do­mestic visitors and 2,467 foreign tourists to these districts in the open sea­son, altogether 622,184 travellers visited two dis­tricts during the period of 10 months.

 

In addition, it is report­ed that more than 1,000 vis­itors entered during Thad­ingyut and Tazaungdaing holidays.

 

Myeik Archipelago is one of the unspoiled natu­ral beauty spots and is an area of interest to foreign tourists. It was learned from travel operators that a day trip will cost around K200,000.

 

Tourists are increas­ingly visiting Myeik Ar­chipelago on speed boats owned by Thai nationals and they focus on visiting Macleod Island, Evil Is­land, Cocks Comb Island, Lampi Island, Hlinegu (Cave) Island, Dome Wa­terfall and Bocho Island in the Kawthoung District, stated tourism operators.

 

There are 56 hotels and lodging houses in the Taninthayi Region and 41 of them are operating in line with current COV­ID-19 rules and regula­tions. — TWA/GNLM
