Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han yester­day morning inspected pro­gress of the wind power pro­ject in Gwa Township, Rakhine State, where anemometers has already been erected in order to conduct the feasibility stud­ies of generating electricity from wind power.

 

At first, company officials explained the project informa­tion and measures regarding plans for wind power projects in An, Gwa and Thandwe town­ships to the Union minister.

 

Then, the Union minister directed them to ensure safety in transportation of wind pow­er equipment to the project site, proceed power line and substation upgrades from all sides, and perform to produce electricity as soon as possible as it is the first-ever wind pow­er project in Myanmar.

 

Next, the Union minister and party checked the pro­gress of recording wind speed results by installing anemom­eters and the pre-surveyed areas.

 

The wind power project in Gwa Township will be im­plemented together by a cit­izen-owned company Prim­us Advanced Technologies Limited (PRIMUS), Hong Kong-based Asia Ecoenergy Development Limited (AED) and Yunnan Machinery and Equipment Import and Ex­port Co Ltd from the People's Republic of China. It will be developed in Gwa Township, Rakhine State with an installed power of 100 megawatts, and the annual production capacity will be 227.2 million kilowatt hours.

 

At the 66/11 KV (10MVA) sub-station in Gwa Township, the Union minister looked into the project area in the sub-sta­tion yard.

 

After that, he met with the current employees and clari­fied the status of the Ministry's operations and the current power distribution. The em­ployees' presentations were resolved and cash assistance was presented.

 

Finally, the Union minister and officials visited the Kye­intali Creek near Kyeintali to conduct the feasibility studies of water resources. — MNA/CT
