At least 38 people have died, and many others have been injured, in a fire at a Mexican detention facility for migrants seeking to enter the United States.
The fire broke out on Monday in Ciudad Juarez, a city in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, which is near the US border.
Officials in Mexico initially said at least 40 people were killed, but they later corrected the number.
The victims are reportedly from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela and other Central and South American countries.
The wife of one of the detainees said, "I see many people laying on the ground and I don't know what to think. They tell me nothing."
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador spoke about the matter on Tuesday. He said it appears that the detainees set mattresses on fire in protest, after learning that they would be deported.
An NGO in Ciudad Juarez says at least 10,000 migrants in the city are waiting to enter the US. It says some have been detained by Mexican authorities and sent to detention facilities.
More than two and a half million people crossed the border and entered the US from Mexico last year without following proper legal procedures.
