Fire broke out at Kyinnipyin relief camp in Pauktaw Township, Sittwe District of Rakhine State yesterday evening.

 

The fire broke out when Ilya (27 years old) and his wife Ma A Hsu (24 years old) of the relief camp had a quarrel while cooking in the kitchen. The fire was believed to have started from an ember which was hit with a piece of wood thrown by husband Ilya and spread to nearby a gas bottle use for a schooner and spread to nearby shanties, destroying a total of 186 houses. But the blaze was completely extinguished by local people.

 

A massive fire left a total of 3710 people including 1628 men and 2082 women from 530 families homeless. But no casualties were reported.

 

Fire victims are currently taking shelter in the shanties of their relatives, schools and clinics built by the Township Relief and Rehabilitation Committee in the camp.—Win Min Soe(IPRD)
