The Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (MMCWA) marked its 10th anni­versary at Nay Pyi Taw’s Hori­zon Lake View Hotel yesterday morning. The event saw the presence of Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, MMCWA’s honorary patron and wife of the Chairman of the State Administration Council, alongside Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than Nwe, hon­orary patrons of the Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation.

 

Dr Soe Win, Union Minis­ter for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, who also chairs the Myanmar Women’s Committee, highlighted MMC­WA’s vibrant role as a member not only at the Union level but also across regions, states, and districts. He emphasized their active involvement in forming associations aimed at enhanc­ing the well-being of women and children.

 

He noted that Myanmar, as part of the UN’s procedures, is committed to advancing gender equality and empow­ering women and girls. He highlighted MMCWA’s partic­ipation in the ASEAN Gen­der Mainstreaming Strategic Framework (AGMSF) and its dedication to the ASEAN Com­munity’s three pillars.

 

With Myanmar’s estimated population of 55.8 million as of 1 October 2022, comprising 26.7 million men and 29.1 million women, Union Minister Dr Soe Win urged officials to bolster women’s capacity to effectively contribute to the nation’s de­velopment.

 

MMCWA Chairperson Dr Wai Wai Tha greeted attend­ees and showcased the asso­ciation’s activities through a video presentation. Donations from well-wishers were also announced during the event.

 

The discussions encom­passed MMCWA’s plans for raising awareness and future initiatives aligned with the newly introduced association registration law by the State Administration Council on 28 October 2022. — MNA/KZL
