The Yangon Region government and the Department of Research and Innovation under the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly initiate a distribution project of rice husk charcoal to farmers in the region, said Dr Kay Thwel Khine, deputy director of the department.
The RHC is mixed with urea to produce fertilizers. The carbonized rice husk is produced as per the FAO guidelines for the farmers.
“The RHC will be produced with the collaboration of the Yangon Region government and the Research and Innovation Department. The department mainly focuses on the production sector. We conduct practical sessions for production stages and produce systematically in line with the FAO guidelines. The amount of fertilizer depends on the fruit plants between one and three tonnes per acre. We get the sample rice husk from Thilawa industrial zone and mix them with urea. According to our lab tests, this fertilizer will help increase the yield by more than 8.4 buskets per acre,” she elaborated.
The RHC testing shows that the amount of fertilizer to be used is three tonnes per acre of paddy, one tonne per acre of cowpea, and two tonnes per acre of sunflower and it can be applied four times.
Fertilizers will be mainly distributed to Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Thongwa, Twantay, Kungyangon, Kawhmu, Hlegu, Taikkyi and Hmawby townships where the paddy, beans and pulses and vegetables are mainly planted. — ASH/KTZH
