Wildfires in northeastern Greece have left 18 people dead. Authorities say the fire victims may be illegal migrants because no area residents are missing.

The fires started on Saturday in the Evros region.

Fire management officials say the bodies were found in a forest near the border with Turkey.

They also say 70 inpatients of a nearby hospital have been moved to other hospitals as the fires continue to spread.

Residents of 35 communities have been told to evacuate their homes.

Extreme heat and dry conditions have led to massive wildfires around the world, including ones in Maui in the US state of Hawaii and Spain's Canary Islands.

Scientists link the disasters to climate change.
