A ceremony to incinerate expired food which prohibited by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the quality of standards for hygienic medicine took place at the office of the Department of Consumer Affairs in Yinmabin Township, Sagaing Region this morning.

The ceremony was the eighth time of burning the banned food in Yinmabin Township. An official from the DOCA explained matters relating to the prohibited food and drugs.  Next, officials from the DOCA and the Consumer Dispute Resolution Committee incinerated food which was confiscated in Yinmabin, Kani, Salingyi and Pale Townships worth Ks. 24,300.

“So far, we have already burnt expired food and prohibited drugs valued at Ks. 614,275, said U Thet Naing, Assistant Director of the DOCA. The FDA announced a list of tainted food and medicine during the period from January to December in 2017.—
