Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe attended the opening ceremony of the 13th Myanmar Obstetrical and Gynecological Congress at the Novotel Yangon Max Hotel, Yangon yesterday.

The 13th Myanmar Obstetrical and Gynecological Congress was conducted by the Myanmar Medical Association and Obstetrical and Gynecological Association, together with chairman, secretary and doctors from the Asia and Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Australia, Japan, ROK and India.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe called for cooperation to reduce the gynecological problems and promotion of educational sectors while making an effort to form a team of obstetricians and gynecologists. As the midwife played a crucial role in the rural areas, the Ministry of Health and Sports would implement the empowerment programmes for obstetricians and gynecologists to promote the sustainable learning. As for the young academicians, they would exchange views and gain experience on latest therapies from the seniors. Thus it was of great importance to join the programme to make an effective use of it, he said.

Then Vice Chairman of the 13th Myanmar Obstetrical and Gynaecological Congress Prof. Dr. Aye Aung delivered a congratulatory message and read out the message of the Chairman of the Myanmar Medical Association.

Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe and officials cut the ceremonial ribbons and visited the exhibition booths.

Following this, Union Minister, permanent secretaries, Deputy Director-Generals (Lab) and officials held talks with Director General from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Centre (HQ) in the U.S Dr. David K. Turgeon and regional director of Myanmar Dr. Mitesh Desai at the meeting room of the Ministry’s office in Bahan Township, Yangon, where they discussed the matters regarding the National Health Laboratory to become the internationally recognized laboratory standards.—MNA (Translated by Win Ko Ko Aung)
