The Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement conducted an awareness talk about natural disasters in conjunction with an earthquake drill at the town hall in Khamti Township, Sagaing Region this morning.

At the ceremony, Chairman of the township management committee U Khin Maung Hsint gave an opening speech. An official from the Department of Disaster Management then elaborated on holding disaster drills, explained the aims of the awareness talk, discussed preventative measures and responses if a natural disaster occurs and disseminated knowledge about the risks of earthquakes.

An official from the Department of Health also clarified “don’t and do”. The departmental staff, policemen, firefighters, volunteers, local authorities and residents were also involved in the earthquake drill.—IPRD
