A Paritta recitation ceremony for the world largest drum carved by Myanmar traditional drum architect U Kyaw Nyunt was held in Letpangon Village, Indaw Township in Sagaing Region on 27 February.

The ceremony was attended by Sagaing Regional Advocate-General U Khin Maung Hla, Assistant Commissioner U Han Win Aung, chairman of the township management committee U Thein Tan, departmental officials, and guests. First, the congregation received “the Five Precepts” from members of the Sangha. Then members of the Sangha recited the “Paritta” and shared merits gained. Officials sprinkled scented water on the drum.

“The drum will be conveyed to Ayemya Thayar Sports Grounds in Indaw on 10 March. At night, a prominent Buddhist monk the Sitagu Sayadaw will preach the Dhamma in conjunction with Paritta recitation. The drum will be conveyed to Kawlin via Wuntho on 17 March and Shwebo on 18 March. It will be conveyed and housed at the Raja Manisula Pagoda in Sagaing on 19 March,””said U Thein tan, Chairman of the township management committee.—Ko Min (Indaw)
