The Myanmar women’s national team defeated the India women’s squad 2-1 in an international friendly match played at Thuwunna Youth Training Centre in Yangon yesterday.

This victory made the debut of the Myanmar women’s team a sweet result. Team India played the best response to Myanmar, so it was a very competitive match.

While the Myanmar team prioritized attacking from the start, the Indian team did not play defensively, relying on counterattacks. In the 13 minute, the Myanmar team took the lead when Win Theingi Tun headed in a corner kick. Both teams had opportunities to score goals, but they could not use them, so the Myanmar team was leading by one goal at the end of the first half.

The Indian team, which had been close to equalizing since the first half, got back in 57 minutes, and Pyari Xaxa scored. After the draw, the match became more mutual, but in the 74 minute, San Thaw Thaw scored the winning goal for team Myanmar.

The second friendly match for both teams will be played at the same venue on 12 July. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
