According to coconut market sources, Bogale coconuts are receiving continuous orders from Yangon, Pyay, and Tachilek.
Coconuts in Bogale Township are primarily produced during the rainy season, with the most popular brands being Penang and ‘Pwe’ (offerings) coconuts.
“Coconuts are ordered from Yangon, Pyay, and Tachilek, with increasing demand during this high-production season. Orders vary by brand, with most customers requesting large and medium-sized coconuts. We negotiate prices to accommodate traders’ needs, with some ordering only large coconuts and others buying both large and medium sizes. Penang and ‘Pwe’ (offerings) are the most popular brands, according to a coconut farmer in Bogale Township.”
Coconut production varies with the weather, and the Ayeyawady Region leads in overall output. During the summer, Bogale’s coconuts are predominantly ordered from Yangon for their coconut water.
“The fruiting rate of coconuts drops with insufficient rain and is further affected by damage from rats. Bogale, along with Pyapon, Pathein, and Mawgyun in the Ayeyawady Region, produces a significant number of coconuts. Currently, it is the peak season for coconuts, and people in Yangon often enjoy coconut water during the summer,” he said. — Thit Taw/ZN
