DEFENDING champions Shan United and second-placed Yan­gon United continued their winning streaks in the Fixture 9 of 2024-2025 season Myanmar National League held yester­day.

 

Shan United beat Ay­eyawady United with a 2-1 victory at Pathein Stadium. Despite a recent managerial change, Shan United came from behind to secure the away win, maintaining their lead at the top of the table. Shan deployed most of their key players, including three foreign players, while their rival, Ayeyawady United also utilized a full-strength squad. The defending champions took the lead in the second minute, with Barkayoko scoring early.

 

Although Ayeyawady fought hard to equalize, Shan United goalkeeper Kyaw Zin Phyo’s strong performance kept them ahead at halftime with a 1-0 lead.

 

Ayeyawady managed to level the score in the 62nd min­ute through a goal by Yan Naing Lin. Shan United responded by making attacking changes, and in the 84th minute, striker Rin­taro scored the winner from a penalty. Ayeyawady goalkeeper Hein Htet Soe secured the Man of the Match for his outstand­ing efforts.

 

In another fixture at Thu­wunna Youth Training Centre, Yangon United secured a dom­inant 6-1 victory over Dagon Port FC. Yangon United, con­tinuing their winning run, over­whelmed the newly promoted side with a half-dozen goals.

 

Winger Okka Naing netted a hat-trick, scoring in the 3rd, 37th, and 69th minutes. Addition­al goals came from Yan Kyaw Htwe in the 45+1 minute, David Htan in the 59th minute, and La Min Htwe in the 62rd minute. Dagon Port’s consolation goal was scored by Sithu Naing in the 55th minute. Okka Naing was named Man of the Match for his hat-trick.

 

The final day of Fixture 9 will be held today, featuring Thitsar Arman FC against Myawady FC at the Thuwun­na Youth Training Centre, and Rakhine United versus Dagon Star United at the Yangon Unit­ed Sports Complex. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
