Heavy rains and scattered rains occurred in some parts of the country due to the movement of whirlwinds from the South China Sea, interactions between warm winds from the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal with cold winds from the high-pressure systems over mainland China as well as the potential for wind instability in the Andaman Sea and the southeastward of the Bay of Bengal.

Hence, it is necessary to prepare for natural disasters caused by storms related to climate change across the world, particularly considering the conditions of the typhoons occurring in the South China Sea. Myanmar faces various natural disasters due to climate change, similar to other countries. Despite passing the monsoon season, heavy rains continue in some parts of the nation due to whirlwinds from the South China Sea and the influence of warm winds from the Andaman Sea and cold winds from China. Moreover, it is essential to prepare for the possibility of facing Typhoon Yinxing, which is affecting the Philippines.

On 7 November, Typhoon Yinxing crossed the Philippines and then headed westwards and northwestwards. In this regard, the route of Typhoon Yinxing is similar to that of recent Typhoon Yagi. Typhoon Yagi crossed the Philippines on 2 September, Vietnam on 8 September and Myanmar on 9 September. At that time, Typhoon Yagi caused many casualties and notable damage in central Myanmar and Shan State due to flash floods and heavy rains.

That is why it is necessary to make proper preparations to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters such as flash floods, overflow from various sources, and landslides. Authorities and disaster management bodies must supervise rehearsals to reduce disaster risks, stockpile relief supplies and organize rescue and relief squads.

According to the weather forecast released by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, less rainfall is expected from 8 to 17 November. The department emphasized the need to prepare against disasters and conduct rehearsals or drills for relief and rescue measures to avoid the impacts of Typhoon Yagi again. That is particularly important because the entire country suffered heavy rains during this monsoon season, and the soil’s humidity may not withstand intense disasters accompanied by heavy rains.

As such, people need to follow the advice of local authorities to move to safer places if necessary. They must also cooperate with authorities in essential measures such as evacuation, rescue and relief operations, and emergency response to disasters in order to minimize loss and damage in potential disasters.
