THE supply of grapes has been short, leading to the price getting high and the trade is also fine.

Grape season will begin in January and the supply will be plentiful till May.

“Grape produces sparsely for now so the supply is not abundant, and the price is pretty good now. Despite the shortage, brokers are buying rampantly. Grape production peaks from January to May and prices will fall slightly during that period. Yamethin Township is the biggest grape producer. Grape is also grown in Meiktila but not successful,” said a grape farmer in Yamethin.

Grape grown in Yamethin is mainly transported to Yangon and Mandalay.

“Yangon is the major buyer, and Taunggyi and Aungban also buy a lot,” he added. — Thit Taw/ZS
