THE Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation stated that there were over 450,000 acres of cotton cultivation across the country this year.

A work coordination meeting was held at the meeting hall of the ministry on 19 December, regarding meeting raw material needs for the domestic textile production industry and improving cotton cultivation.

Dr Ye Tint Tun Director-General at the meeting instructed officials concerned to draw up necessary projects to help make long-staple cotton production resilient to climate, achieve yield targets, conduct inspection tours to provide technical assistance to boost cotton quality and have accurate information and statistics on cultivation acres and yield.

The meeting highlighted reaching technical and necessary assistance to cotton farms to improve the quality of the cotton during its season, replanting and remedy activities in disaster-affected farms and ensuring agricultural statistics related to yield, farming acres and success rate. — NN/KK
