ACCORDING to the Ministry of Energy, some refuelling stations have started selling locally produced RON 68 petrol for K2,200 per litre.

Domestically produced Octane 68 has been available at Petrol Station 0354 next to Yazathingaha Road, Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, and at petrol stations 0611 and 0614 in Mandalay Region, under the Ministry of Energy, since 4 January 2025, in honour of the 77th Independence Day.

“Compared to the prices of imported fuel, this price is lower, which will help support the motorcycles and tricycles used by the public. RON 68 petrol can be used in homes, businesses, offices, generators, and boats. Since the petroleum produced by local factories is refined and the resulting petrol is sold back to the public, we can use it with confidence,” said Daw Yin Yin Aung, Director of the Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise (MPE).

In addition, a State-owned filling station in Bago Region and a State-owned petrol station in Shan State will begin distributing and selling locally produced Octane 68 commencing in January, with plans underway to continue its sale at State-owned fuel stations across the country.

Currently, domestically produced fuel is refined at the Thanlyin Refinery in Yangon Region and the Chauk Refinery and the Mann Thanbayakan Refinery in Magway Region. — ASH/TH
