THE Ministry of Commerce will strive to the utmost to boost exports in the financial year 2025-2026 beginning 1 April.

Deputy Minister U Min Min of the Commerce Ministry gave that remark during the work coordination meeting to meet export targets in various sectors for the FY 2025-2026 held on 8 April at the Ministry of Commerce. He also emphasized export competitiveness to bolster exports. Export value hit about US$10 billion before the 2013- 2014 FY. Yet, exports grew to 80 per cent in the two financial years (2019-2020, 2022-2023). Therefore, we all need to exert concerted efforts for export promotion and increase in output this FY. Myanmar’s major trading partners are China, Thailand and India. China accounts for 25 per cent of Myanmar’s exports, while India constitutes about 52 per cent of various pulses exports from Myanmar. Myanmar’s export items must follow the Sanitary and Phytosanitary – SPS protocol and meet other standards and criteria of the trading partners to sell the goods in the competitive market. The government will coordinate the departments concerned to facilitate the trade and to implement government-to-government pacts to penetrate more international markets, he added. — NN/KK
