MYANMAR celebrated Traditional Thingyan Atet Day on 16 April in states and regions with cultural norms and peaceful festivities marking the New Year transition from 1386 ME to 1387 ME.
Chief Ministers of region and states, command commanders, officials and residents joined ceremonies held across the country. In Nay Pyi Taw, events were held at pavilions inside the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), attended by senior Tatmadaw officers, Tatmadaw members and their families. Participants sprinkled scented water using eugenia sprigs, an age-old tradition of the festival.
Traditional practices included offering Thingyan meals at charity pavilions, Thanaka-smearing, and paying respects to elders. People also recited protective Paritta verses, offered alms such as breakfast, day meals and donated uncooked rice to the Sangha, performing good deeds as part of the New Year observance. — MNA/KZL
