MYANMAR’S fish exports amounted to US$421.94 million from over 393,000 tonnes in the previous finan­cial year 2024-2025 (from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025). Myanmar conveyed over 176,600 tonnes of fish worth $241.3 million to foreign trade partners through maritime trade, while fish exports at the borders exceeded 216,540 tonnes worth $180.6 million. Myanmar’s fish export reached over 344,342 metric tonnes, bag­ging over $388 million in the same period of 2023-2024FY.

 

The figure in the FY2024- 2025 showed a significant in­crease of $33.85 million com­pared to that of the FY 2023-3034. Myanmar steadily exports sea­food to 40 countries, including China, Thailand, Bangladesh and Japan, through maritime and bor­der trade channels.

 

More than 20 fish species, including hilsa, rohu, catfish, and seabass, are conveyed to foreign markets, according to the Myan­mar Fisheries Federation.

 

There are over 140 cold-stor­age seafood processing factories in Myanmar. The Department of Fisheries allows licence renewal yearly. — NN/KK
