A steel beam under repair fell onto a DEMU passenger train near Toungoo station yesterday morning, but no injuries were reported. The incident occurred at around 9:40 am yesterday at Bridge No 236, known as the Ka­baung Bridge, close to Toungoo Station in Bago Region. It in­volved the No 7 Up Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train, which departed from Yangon Station at 6 am.

 

The steel beam, which was being repaired at the time fell onto the front DEMU F-1009 engine. The side panels near the air conditioning unit were damaged, causing the train to halt temporarily for about 25 minutes. After stopping, the train reversed to Thaungtain­gon Station before continuing its journey to Nay Pyi Taw via a single-track route.

 

According to the local po­lice station, there are no inju­ries among passengers or staff due to the incident. — IPRD/ KZL
