A steel beam under repair fell onto a DEMU passenger train near Toungoo station yesterday morning, but no injuries were reported. The incident occurred at around 9:40 am yesterday at Bridge No 236, known as the Kabaung Bridge, close to Toungoo Station in Bago Region. It involved the No 7 Up Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train, which departed from Yangon Station at 6 am.
The steel beam, which was being repaired at the time fell onto the front DEMU F-1009 engine. The side panels near the air conditioning unit were damaged, causing the train to halt temporarily for about 25 minutes. After stopping, the train reversed to Thaungtaingon Station before continuing its journey to Nay Pyi Taw via a single-track route.
According to the local police station, there are no injuries among passengers or staff due to the incident. — IPRD/ KZL
