THE Fire Services Department is responsible for protecting the lives, homes, and property of the public, as well as national production assets, from fire hazards. It also undertakes emergency search and rescue operations in the event of natural disasters and other emergencies.
Applying and handling modern fire extinguishers, all members of fire brigades at different levels are enhancing their capacity to successfully put out fires elsewhere. Since their training, all fire brigade members have been equipped with a strong spirit to serve their duties with the sacrifice of life and limbs to protect the life and property of the people whenever a fire breaks out.
The four primary objectives and responsibilities of the Fire Services Department are to ensure fire safety, prevent natural disasters, conduct search and rescue, and carry out public welfare measures. Currently, service personnel from the Fire Services Department and members of the Myanmar Fire Brigade including auxiliary firefighters, members from separate fire brigades and departmental fire brigades are dutifully serving their assignments with high capability.
The Fire Services Department is implementing its seven objectives with capacity building for firefighters by conducting training courses to enhance the four core competencies of fire brigade members: firefighting skills, search and rescue skills, administrative capability, and organizational capacity. Moreover, emphasis is being placed on maintaining, reinforcing, and ensuring the operational readiness of fire engines, vehicles, equipment, and tools used in firefighting and search and rescue operations.
Furthermore, firefighters participate in effectively implementing public awareness programs to educate citizens about fire safety and prevention. On the other hand, the fire brigade is organizing and training reserve and auxiliary fire brigade members to increase manpower and preparedness. In addition, continuous research is being conducted on command systems, firefighting knowledge, and search and rescue techniques to ensure Myanmar’s fire services align with international standards and train all members for proficiency.
The fire brigade uses the authority granted by fire service laws and regulations to issue fire safety inspections and recommendations and ensure that relevant government and private departments, organizations, and businesses strictly follow them. Training produces members of Myanmar’s fire brigade to be a strong and reliable reserve force for the nation. Naturally, although all individuals do not wish to sustain any injuries or life threats at any time, Myanmar firefighters ignore injuries and life threats in serving their duties of extinguishing fire and conducting search and rescue of victims in natural disasters with a pledge to save the lives and property of the people.
