RESCUE, relief and rehabilitation operations are being carried out on the damaged roads, bridges and buildings affected by the powerful Mandalay earthquake.
Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) yesterday observed the clearing of debris at damaged religious buildings at SoonU Ponnyashin and Shinphyuhla pagodas in Sagaing.
He also inspected the distribution of commodities, kitchen utensils provided by AHA Centre and personal equipment provided by Brunei to the quake victims of Shweminwun, Nilar, Padamya, Phyukan, Siti and Meeyahta wards at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Parami Ward, Sagaing.
He then observed heavy machinery clearing debris at Pabedan ward and the construction of a new temporary school building at No 2 BEHS in Poetan ward. He instructed officials to ensure healthcare services for the quake victims at No 1 BEHS.
He proceeded to BEMS (branch) in Chinsu ward to inspect the construction of a new temporary school building.
Similarly, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected the quake-stricken school buildings at No 20 BEHS between 16th and 86th streets in Aungmyaythazan township, Mandalay, and observed the assessment procedures of engineer PE members and post-earthquake assessment after the level-1 test. He also provided cash for the teachers.
On arrival at No 21 BEHS at the corner of 26th Street and Strand Road, he inspected the clearing of debris and post-earthquake assessment, and instructed officials to complete the operations as quickly as possible.
Moreover, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected the clearing of debris at No 15 BEHS in Aungmyaythazan township. He then proceeded to the relief camp at No 17 BEHS in Aungmyaythazan township to console and present relief items to the quake victims.
He observed the construction of modular houses in front of the school compound. He went to Shwelinpin Pagoda in Amarapura township, and observed the clearing processes and donated cash to Sayadaw.
Meanwhile, Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected the clearing of dangerous buildings on Tasoe-Min Su Road in Aye Mya Kyi Lin ward of Kyaukse township, and left necessary instructions.
A total of 645 buildings in Kyaukse District were examined under the SOP system, and it was found that 6,146 can be repaired, while 305 must be demolished, and 277 of them were demolished.
He proceeded to the Land Records Office in Singaing and inspected the quake-battered buildings. He chose the location to construct two modular houses and instructed to seek directives from the relevant ministries regarding the quake-affected buildings.
He also donated offerings and cash at Myat Mingalar Nunnery school in Singaing. He also suggested constructing the buildings should be constructed to withstand earthquakes, and the construction materials are also sold at fair prices by the District Administrative Department.
