The Department of Disaster Management under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement opened a natural disaster management course at a community center in Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay this morning.

 


Firstly, an official from the Department of Disaster Management delivered an opening address and those present posed for a documentary photo. The course instructors will give lectures on basic principles of natural disasters, disasters in Myanmar, climate change, mitigation of disaster risks and environmental conservation, knowledge about disaster management, review on early warning system, community-based disaster management, search and rescue and emergency hotline and cooperation.

 


In addition, the training course will feature distribution of relief aid, provision of first aid, implementation of emergency public health activities, water and sanitation, assessment on damage and casualties after the disaster, rehabilitation, reconstruction, practical activities on disaster management and simulation about disasters. 

 


The five-day course is being attended by 50 trainees from the DDM and concerned departments.—Than Zaw Min (IPRD)
