CONSTRUCTION materials necessary for rebuilding efforts in areas affected by the recent earthquake are sold at fair prices at the Tabaung Ground near Uppatasanti Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw. The sales event, which began on 12 May and will run until 18 May, entered its third day yesterday and is attracting earthquake victims and locals from various regions.

Following the major earthquake that struck Mandalay on 28 March, efforts were made to provide steel, iron, cement and other construction materials to the public at reasonable prices and with assured quality. The initiative is aimed at assisting people in rebuilding homes and structures damaged by the disaster.

Yesterday’s sales event included booths from the Myanmar Cement Manufacturers Association, the Myanmar Steel Entrepreneurs Association, the Myanmar Iron and Steel Association and vendors of construction and household items. International-quality kitchenware, furniture, solar panels, paint and both small and large generators were also on sale and appealing to the public.

The sales are jointly organized by the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), Myanmar Steel Entrepreneurs Association, Myanmar Iron and Steel Association, Myanmar Cement Manufacturers Association and the Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association. — Jai Law (MNA)/KZL
