Kyaukse, 19 May

Kyaukse Township in Mandalay Region has made significant progress in the cultivation of various summer crops through effective use of irrigation systems, including dams, canals, and natural streams. During the 2024–2025 summer crop planting season, crops such as summer paddy, summer sesame, and rain-fed cotton are being actively grown.

As of 19 May, a total of 44,206 acres of summer sesame has been successfully cultivated using irrigation. Of this total, 31,037 acres are irrigated by the Zawgyi system, 13,129 acres by the Kintar system, and 40 acres by the Thit Takkon system.

The primary variety grown in the township is Sinyar-4 sesame, which is well-suited to the region’s conditions and known for its high yield. According to the Township Agriculture Department, this variety is being widely adopted to boost productivity.

To ensure successful harvests and maximize yields, the department is promoting modern planting techniques such as the large-frame system and row-drawing method. Agricultural officers are also conducting regular field visits, providing educational outreach, and distributing pamphlets with guidance on proper row spacing and planting practices.— Thet Maung
