The Forest Department, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, continues its crackdown on illegal logging through various initiatives, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), in cooperation with the public.
According to reports from Forest Department offices in Nay Pyi Taw and across states and regions, authorities seized a total of 104.56 tons of illegal timber between May 12 and 18. The haul included 53.58 tons of teak, 13.80 tons of hardwood, and 37.17 tons of other timber types.
In addition to the timber, four vehicles and machines used in the illegal operations were confiscated. Nine individuals were arrested in connection with the cases.— MNA
