STATE Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo addressed the second coordination meeting of the Industrial Development Commission (IDC) yesterday.

At the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Commission Chairman, discussed the sustainable development of local industrial enterprises and systematic establishment of new industrial projects, cooperation between state-owned and privately-owned factories and workshops to ensure the quality industrial products, One Stop Service (OSS) programmes, formation of focal departments or work groups to support the industrial development of the country and sending of KPI and Target assessment to the Monitoring and Evaluation department.

He also added that construction materials, such as cement and steel, are now in high demand in rehabilitation processes, so it is necessary to support the full-capacity operation of the existing factories and work hard to increase the number of new factories. Efforts are being made to produce import-substitute products using domestic raw materials and to import the semi-products for finished product production locally. Such doing will reduce the foreign currency expenditure and create more job opportunities. He then called on the attendees to discuss the KPI, targets, objectives, and strategies to be implemented by respective ministries.

Meeting attendees discussed the activities of the commission, order lists submitted to the commission, the need for construction materials and other industrial development measures.
