Kyunhla, 28 May
Kyunhla Township in Kanbalu District, Sagaing Region, plans to cultivate over 34,000 acres of rain-fed paddy during this year’s rainy season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
“Kyunhla Township is primarily an agricultural area, growing various crops in addition to paddy. This year, a total of 34,097 acres have been designated for monsoon paddy cultivation. Although planting was delayed last year, farmers are preparing to start earlier this year due to the early arrival of the rains,” said Daw Myint Myint Yi, staff officer at the Township Agriculture Department.
To help farmers meet their yield targets, the department is providing quality seeds, guidance on proper planting techniques, timely sowing schedules, and agricultural technology.
Despite sufficient rainfall in the region, timely planting of rain-fed paddy requires the use of streams, canals, and groundwater. Land preparation and reformation efforts are currently underway to support this year’s cultivation.— Myo Win Nyo, Kyunhla
