MEMBERS of various organiza­tions and residents participate in rescue and rehabilitation efforts in quake-affected areas.

 

Chief Minister of Sagaing Region U Myat Kyaw and Lt- Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected collapsed Myatheintan Pagoda caused by the Mandalay earthquake and condition of Mingun bell in Mingun region of Sagaing Town­ship yesterday.

 

They presented 18 kinds of personal goods and foodstuffs provided by the Department of Disaster Management to Mingun Buddhist Home for the Aged and cash to older persons. They also viewed collapsed Pahtodawgyi and the lion statue and Mingun Sitagu main water pump station. They also presented 18 kinds of personal goods and foodstuffs to Mingun region police station and inspected damaged staff hous­ing. They donated foodstuffs and alms for venerable monks from Tipitaka Nikaya Monastery on Momeik Hill of Mingun mountain range and inspected clearing of the collapsed monastery and viewed round damaged school buildings in Chaungpauk and Pengahse villages.

 

Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of the Command­er-in-Chief (Army) looked into renovation of damaged Shweky­etkya Pagoda in Amarapura Township. He also observed re­pairing of damaged pagodas in Aungmyethazan Township and fulfilled the needs.

 

Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Com­mander-in-Chief (Army) over­viewed dredging of drains along Yangon-Mandalay highway in Kyaukse and repairing of build­ings at the rural health centre in Phyaukseikpin Village and sales of construction materials at the factory prices to the people. He also looked into preparations to hold the religious examinations at Taikkyaung Buddhism Learn­ing Centre in Singaing Township.

 

While in Singaing, he in­spected the quake-affected nat­ural gas-powered plant of Pow­er Gen Kyaukse Company Ltd. Seven of eight generators have been repaired at the plant. Each engine can generate 18.471 meg­awatts. So, the plant can feed 129.297 megawatts to the na­tional grid per day. — MNA/TTA
