THE Myanmar-China Media Dialogue commemorating the 75th anniversary establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries was held yesterday morning at the Parkroyal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint, departmental officials, Minister Counsellor Ms Cao Jing and staff from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, guests, and participants in the discussion.
The ceremony opened with a musical performance by vocalists from Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) and China Media Group, who sang the Chinese folk song “ Blossoming Jasmine”.
This was followed by the screening of a commemorative video clip titled “From Pauk-Phaw Friendship to more successful and warmer Myanmar-China Relations”.
Deputy Minister U Ye Tint then delivered a speech, noting that this year marks the diamond jubilee of Myanmar-China diplomatic relations — a milestone of great significance for both nations. He expressed confidence that the theme of today’s dialogue, “Walking hand in hand towards a shared future,” reflects a commitment to deepening bilateral media cooperation, which will in turn strengthen the people-to-people bond between the two countries.
He praised the Chinese media’s prompt and widespread coverage of the recent Mandalay earthquake, which greatly supported Myanmar’s search and rescue efforts as well as its reconstruction operations. He urged even closer collaboration to reinforce bilateral ties and promote mutual understanding among the peoples of both countries. He envisioned future cooperation shaped by mutual support and shared prosperity.
Following this, Minister Counsellor Ms Cao Jing delivered remarks. She highlighted the Chinese Embassy’s high regard for the role of media and noted that the Myanmar-China Media Dialogue is held every three months. She explained that study tours and advanced training programmes are regularly arranged for Myanmar media professionals to visit China, helping them to witness the authentic aspects of Chinese society. She added that the Chinese Embassy would continue to host exchange programmes and dialogues, aiming to deepen Myanmar media professionals’ understanding of Chinese culture and the warmth and sincerity of the Chinese people.
The dialogue then proceeded with discussions divided into three sessions under the themes: “Media Cooperation in Times of Crisis: Reflecting the Shared Future of Myanmar-China Community”, “Future Prospects for Media Collaboration in Gathering News on Post-earthquake Recovery, Development, and Public Welfare Efforts” and “Turning the 75th Anniversary of Myanmar-China Diplomatic Relations into an Opportunity: Exploring New Avenues of Cooperation in Diplomacy and Media Through a Modern Chinese Approach”.
The discussions were led by officials from MRTV, the Department of Media Development, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the Myanmar Institute for Strategic and International Studies, the Myanmar Press Council, and China Media Group. — MNA/KNN
