PARENTS – father and mother – are the great benefactors of each family in Myanmar culture. All Buddhists designate parents are one of the religiously sacred gems. Generally, offspring never violate and harm their parents. If they are affordable, they look after their parents with facilities as much as possible as prescribed by Myanmar culture and traditions.
Myanmar upholds the concept that parents are the benefactors who give birth to their children. They nurture their children from childhood to adulthood. Moreover, those parents continue their aid their offspring to comfortably walk along their paths as they choose. Actually, parents never see faults committed by their offspring due to holding up the forgiveness for all. Even so, parents never expect to receive anything from their children and they are always keen to serve their offspring as much as possible.
Emphasizing the critical role of parents in the rearing of children, the Global Day of Parents celebrates the vital role parents play in raising children, recognizing families as the primary source of love, care, and protection. Children thrive best in an environment filled with happiness, understanding, and support – key elements provided within a nurturing family.
Established by the UN General Assembly in 2012, the 1st of June every year is designated to honour the unwavering dedication of parents and their lifelong commitment to their children’s well-being. Parents, families, and caregivers are foundational to a child’s development, offering emotional support, a sense of identity, and economic stability.
Aligned with the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, many countries now view family and parenting support as essential to social policy, helping reduce poverty and inequality, and promoting overall well-being. As such, all offspring have to reciprocally look after their parents when they become senior citizens as part of paying back gratitude to their parents. If it becomes a tradition in the global community, all offspring and parents in generations will have the chance to build their lives safely.
For 2025, the theme “Raising Parents” underscores that parenting is not innate but a learned skill. It highlights the need for time, resources, and support to help caregivers create a positive environment for their children. To mark the occasion, UNICEF will launch Parenting Month 2025 – a global campaign to empower caregivers. The initiative will feature real-life parenting stories, offer practical advice, and advocate for expanded access to parenting programmes and resources.
