RESCUE and recovery efforts are carried out intensively in areas affected by the strong Mandalay earthquake. Various organizations are cooperating with local communities to as­sist.

 

Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Command­er-in-Chief (Army) and officials inspected collapsed religious buildings in Sagaing yesterday, including Thatkyadhita nun­nery, Shwe Kyataung Pagoda, Shwehintha Monastery, and Khema Thiwunchaung Monas­tery, and coordinated support for clearing debris before the monsoon.

 

They also attended a cere­mony at Ywathoung Ward affil­iated Basic Education Middle School, where the Myanmar Rice and Paddy Traders Asso­ciation had donated repaired school buildings and uniforms. Officials handed over certif­icates of honour, took group photos, and inspected the ren­ovated school buildings.

 

Lt-Gen Thet Pon and team later visited sites allo­cated for rebuilding monas­teries and nunneries in the southern part of Sagaing and inspected the ongoing work at Rajamanisular Pagoda, where Tatmadaw members were re­pairing religious buildings. They also viewed the removal of furniture at Sagaing Tech­nological University damaged by the quake and coordinated necessary support.

 

Likewise, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and officials inspected dam­aged residential buildings in Mandalay’s Aungmyaythazan Township and surrounding wards. They reviewed both cleared and pending demo­litions and coordinated with responsible personnel.

 

In Maha Aungmyay Town­ship, they examined buildings awaiting demolition or already cleared in Mahamyine 1 and Seinpan wards.

 

Meanwhile, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) visited the Sweltaw­myat Pagoda in Amarapura’s Nat Yay Kan village tract. He inspected the cleaning efforts and repairs of cracked struc­tures around the pagoda and gardens and monitored ongo­ing foundation work, which certified engineers had ver­ified. Officials are also docu­menting sacred relics such as diamond buds and bird-shaped ornaments. They then visited the Maha Suddhara Rama mo­nastic school in Tagon Taing ward, Pyigyidagun Township, to assess earthquake damage.

 

Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Com­mander-in-Chief (Army) and officials inspected rescue training activities at Minye Dam in Kyaukse, where fire brigade members and Kyaukse Rescue team were practising speed boat operations and wa­ter rescue drills for natural dis­aster response. The visit aimed to ensure practical prepared­ness, and the team provided refreshments and coordinated necessary support.

 

They also visited Shwekyi­na Monastery in Ywanaing Ward to observe earthquake damage repairs and donated religious items to the presid­ing monk. In Sintgaing, they checked earthquake impacts and recovery efforts at the Bawga Bala Plastics factory. The team further inspected the supply of construction materi­als at special prices to support the rebuilding of damaged re­ligious buildings and homes in Kyaukse and facilitated co­ordination for ongoing needs. — MNA/KZL
