The Forest Department, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, is stepping up efforts to combat illegal timber trading in cooperation with local communities through the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS).
Between 2 and 8 June, authorities seized a total of 64.57 tons of illegal timber—comprising 22.82 tons of teak, 36.81 tons of hardwood, and 5.93 tons of other timber—across Nay Pyi Taw and several states and regions. Additionally, six vehicles and machines were also confiscated, and five suspects were arrested in connection with the cases.— MNA
