Magway, 10 June

Yenangyaung Township in the Magway Region has continued its cultivation of pigeon pea, which has proven to be a profitable crop for local farmers this year.

Since May, pigeon pea has been grown as an intercrop alongside sesame and peanut across the township. In the previous year, farmers in Yenangyaung Township cultivated a total of 15,289 acres of pigeon pea. All of the planted acreage was successfully harvested, yielding an average of 12.28 bushels per acre, according to the Yenangyaung Township Agriculture Department.

For the current rainy season, the township has once again set a target of planting 15,289 acres. As of 8 June, 3,114 acres have already been sown, the Agriculture Department reported.— Sannyunt (Yenangyaung)
