DEPUTY Minister for Science and Technology Dr Aung Zeya attended the second day of the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference, “Global Biosecurity Challenges, Prob­lems, and Solutions,” held on 11 June at the Novotel Hotel in Sochi, Russian Federation.

 

The Deputy minister participated in a seminar ti­tled “New Opportunities and Emerging Risks of Technolo­gy in the Context of Biosecu­rity: Artificial Intelligence and Synthetic Biology,” alongside experts from the Institute of Virology, the Department of Bioorganic Research, the De­partment of Microorganisms, the Department of Molecular Mechanisms, and the Central Research Institute for the Pre­vention and Control of Chemi­cal and Biological Hazards.

 

He also attended Session 6 of the conference, titled “In­ternational and Regional Co­operation under Article X of the BTWC,” which featured a panel discussion with officials from various BTWC-related organizations in Russia, Chi­na, the Asia-Pacific region, and Africa. Additionally, he joined Plenary Session II, held in the Amphitheatre, titled “Innova­tions for Regional and Global Biosecurity”.

 

At the closing ceremony, coordinators of the six sessions summarized the discussion out­comes, and Mr Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Af­fairs of the Russian Federation, delivered the closing speech. — MNA/TH
