Taikkyi, 16 June
A tornado struck Taikkyi Township in Yangon Region at around 5 a.m. today, damaging the roofs of six houses in Inyetgyi Village. One house collapsed entirely, while another was struck by a fallen tree.
A team of eight firefighters and 20 auxiliary personnel, led by Township Fire Services Department Chief U Zaw Chit Htet, responded promptly to the scene. They rescued residents from the six damaged houses and relocated them to safe areas. The team also cleared debris from the collapsed house and removed a 60-foot tall Malaysian Padauk tree, approximately 2 feet in diameter that had fallen on the home of U Aung Min Sein.
Additionally, a 4-foot diameter tree and a 3-foot diameter tree, each about 40 feet tall, had fallen onto the village road in Thayet Kone Village due to the tornado. Firefighters removed both trees, and the road has since been cleared and reopened to normal traffic.— Wat Yee (IPRD)
