“Local sculptors proved that they could create sand sculptures like international sculptors last year’s Thingyan festival. So we are making arrangements to organize a sand sculpture competition that allows only local sculptors to take part in the event,” the regional social affairs minister said. The intention of the event is to utilize the sand which is abundantly available in the Chindwin River to carve different sand sculptures that can be observed by people.

The event also aims to produce professional local sand sculptors capable of participating in the international sand sculpture contest.—Win Oo (Zeyar Taing)
