Myanmar inked a Memorandum of Cooperation with EAEU in 2023 and another MoC with EEC in Saint Petersburg of the Russian Federation in June 2023.
Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, held a meeting with Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Mr Bakytzhan Abdirovich Sagintayev at Minsk International Exhibition Centre BELEXPO yesterday morning.
The Chairman of the EEC Board warmly welcomed the Senior General.
At the meeting, the Chairman of EEC Board extended greetings that he warmly welcomed the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister, and his entourage, and expressed that the participation of the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister himself at the Fourth Europe-Asia Economic Forum (EEF 2025) will further enhance cooperative efforts.
In his discussions, the Senior General expressed his firm belief that this meeting will be a drive to practically implement cooperation between Myanmar and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member countries. Myanmar and EAEU inked a Memorandum of Cooperation in 2023. Moreover, he added that the government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in Saint Petersburg, the Russian Federation, in June 2023. He continued that many opportunities for cooperation have been found between Myanmar and EAEU member countries. The Senior General expressed his hope that the implementation of the signed memorandum of cooperation will be a step for Myanmar to advance to the level of an observer country in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). So, he affirmed that Myanmar will strive to further strengthen cooperation through practical implementation.
Furthermore, the Senior General and the Chairman of EEC Board frankly exchanged views on promotion of economic cooperation between Myanmar and EAEU member countries, enhancement of agriculture, transport, mining technology and energy sectors of Myanmar and potential for cooperation in these sectors, further acceleration of trade opportunities through conducting direct trade and investment and holding expositions and fora between Myanmar and EAEU member countries, support of EAEU for Myanmar to become an observer country of EAEU, and creation of good opportunities to ensure economic cooperation.
Also, present at the meeting together with the Senior General were Council Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, SAC member General Nyo Saw, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Kan Zaw, deputy ministers, Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of Belarus U Thit Linn Ohn and officials.
