MYANMAR is one of the countries that frequently experiences the impacts of natural disasters due to its coastal location. Every year, starting from the late May monsoon season, the country regularly faces various natural disasters such as heavy rainfall, flooding, riverbank erosion, and cyclones.

Starting from June in the 2025 monsoon season, due to the impact of storms that had occurred in neighbouring countries in the region, there was heavy rainfall in upper Myanmar. As a result, the water level of the Ayeyawady River began to rise from Myitkyina. Consequently, some low-lying towns and villages in Myitkyina also experienced flooding. Along with the rising river levels and the effects of the storms, disaster victims from quake-affected areas in Sagaing and Mandalay regions faced worsening living conditions.

Throughout the time that humans coexist with nature, they inevitably have to endure unexpected natural disasters. However, instead of merely enduring these disasters, efforts must be made to rescue and protect lives and property as much as possible. At present, in order to effectively minimize and overcome the impact of natural disasters, disaster preparedness and response training are being conducted in towns and villages. These trainings aim to enable the timely and skilled execution of disaster relief operations. Under the leadership of local authorities, relevant departments and organizations are providing training to rescue team members through experienced personnel.

Due to the support and assistance from both local and international donors, the contributions from relevant ministries and organizations, as well as the active participation of local communities in implementing disaster prevention measures tailored to their specific regions, disaster response teams have been established at the township level. These teams have been equipped with the necessary physical resources such as life-saving boats, life jackets, and essential equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities have been divided among different sectors to carry out necessary tasks such as search and rescue operations, provision of temporary shelters, food and water supplies, transportation access, security, and healthcare services. As a result, the relevant organizations across the country are in a state of readiness to provide timely assistance and rescue operations whenever a natural disaster occurs.

The key point that must be carried out is that, in facing and overcoming natural disasters, all citizens must work together in unity and solidarity. Everyone must dutifully fulfil their responsibilities with a spirit of dedication and sacrifice for those affected by the disasters. With the collective strength of the entire people, the impacts of natural disasters can be mitigated and reduced.
