Ngapali, 13 March
A collective garbage clearance campaign was undertaken on Ngapali Beach, a popular tourist attraction site in Ngapali, Rakhine State on 12 March.
A group of more than 60 people comprising of the local authorities and workers from a dried fish factory carried out the campaign along the Ngapali Beach. PVR Hotel also donated 100 plastic trash bags to contain rubbish to the volunteers. Garbage, which is tossed over the sides of boats by careless people, ends up washed on beaches during high tide. As the water recedes, the refuse remains on the shore.

“Garbage is everybody’s problem. We have made an arrangement to conduct a similar activity with the participation of 100 students in the next week. At the same time, we will launch an awareness campaign about public participation to reduce garbage problem on a monthly basis, said U Zaw Zaw Tun, Geiktaw Ward Administrator.
The volunteers were actively involved in the disposal of trash for beautifying the beach.—Yan Nyein (IPRD)
