A home for the aged named “Chan Myae Thitsar Dhamma” was opened in Manaung Township, Rakhine State this morning.

U Shwe Tin Aung and his wife Daw Phyu Nu, the owners of a tour company and a construction materials import & export firm from Yangon donated more than Ks. 600 million to set up the home for the aged on 1.20 acres of land near Dattaw Pagoda in Manaung Township. The opening ceremony of the home for the aged was held this morning. At first, the donor family members opened the facility by cutting a ceremonial ribbon.

They then together with the Township Administrator U Myint Hlaing sprinkled scented water on a stone plaque of the structure. Afterwards, the patron explained the purpose of donation and the township administrator spoke words of gratitude on behalf of local people. Presently, 10 old people are taking shelter at the home. Ks. 50,000 is set to provide food to the elders per day, according to the chairman of the home U Ba Kyin. The 2017 Myanmar Idol winner Thar Ngel and some vocalists will perform entertainment at the township sport ground from 16 to 17 March to raise funds for the home.--Thein Pe (IPRD)
