A Japanese man who was a keen supporter of the Olympics has died. Naotoshi Yamada was 92 years old.

His Tokyo-based company says he died of heart failure on March 9.

Yamada had attended every Summer Olympics since the 1964 Tokyo Games, and wore traditional Japanese clothing for the events. He was nicknamed the "Olympic Uncle" because of his enthusiasm for the Games.

Yamada also worked to promote the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Three years ago, he organized an exhibition of about 200 Olympic items, including pictures and memorabilia, in his hometown in Toyama Prefecture.

Company officials say Yamada had been looking forward to next year's Summer Games. They say he was hospitalized in February when his health deteriorated.
